UNIONDALE, N. Darryl Dawkins Jersey .Y. -- In Thomas Vaneks first week with the New York Islanders, the high-scoring forward has often said how thrilled he is to be playing alongside new captain John Tavares. Now he is starting to show how happy he really is. Tavares, defenceman Andrew MacDonald and Vanek scored second-period goals, and Kevin Poulin made 26 saves for his first win of the season as the Islanders beat the Boston Bruins 3-1 on Saturday night. Vanek, the left wing acquired from Buffalo for fan favourite Matt Moulson, scored his first goal with the Islanders and recorded his 500th NHL point. The scoring play came on a perfect cross-ice pass from right wing Kyle Okposo. Vanek finished it with a one-timer from the left circle past goalie Chad Johnson. "That felt really good, a relief for me," Vanek said. "Each day were feeling better and better and working together. Tonight you saw what can be possible with our line." Tavares knocked a loose puck past Johnson at 6:15 of the second for his sixth goal of the season. The assist went to Vanek. After MacDonald scored his first of the season at 13:13 to make it 2-0, and Bostons Dougie Hamilton answered two minutes later, Vanek notched his 255th NHL goal. "Hes a great skilled player," Tavares said. "When you get those opportunities, you have to take advantage of them, and he did. When we play our game and compete, we are successful." Okposo and defenceman Travis Hamonic assisted on the goals by MacDonald and Vanek. The Islanders (6-5-3) won for the second straight night. On Friday, they bombarded the Ottawa Senators with 57 shots and won 5-4 in a shootout, twice rallying from two-goal deficits. "Our last six periods have been very good," Islanders coach Jack Capuano said. "Kevin was particularly solid for us tonight. This was a strong character win." Tavares, who has played 221 consecutive games, seemed more at ease with the new line combination of Vanek and Okposo. Moulson had been Tavares left wing and close friend since the captains rookie season in 2009-10, scoring 118 goals for the Islanders. Boston (8-5) lost for the third time in four games. Poulins best save came 6:58 in when he denied David Krejci from the top of the crease after two perfect passes from Jarome Iginla and Patrice Bergeron. He also stopped Milan Lucics backhand from in front with 1:29 left in the third as the Bruins had Johnson pulled for an extra skater. He made another glove save on Hamilton with 23 seconds remaining, sparking chants of "Pou-lin, Pou-lin" from the home crowd. "I felt strong out there, working hard at doing the little things right," Poulin said. The 23-year-old Poulins two other starts in place of No. 1 goalie Evgeni Nabokov were losses -- 3-2 at Chicago and 5-2 at home to Philadelphia. Johnson played his second game of the season to give Tuukka Rask a rest. Johnson won his only other start, 5-2 at Buffalo on Oct. 23. The Bruins, coming off a 3-2 shootout win over Anaheim on Thursday, will start a five-game homestand against Dallas on Tuesday. They had won their previous three visits and eight of 10 at Nassau Coliseum. "We werent focused or sharp enough," Bruins coach Claude Julien said. "Well be working hard to get the team back on track." The Islanders will embark on a four-game trip starting Tuesday at Washington before they head to Carolina, Columbus and Montreal. NOTES: The Bruins were again without forward Loui Eriksson, who sustained a concussion when he was hit by Buffalos John Scott on Oct. 23. ... Islanders D Lubomir Visnovsky missed his sixth straight game with a concussion. ... The Islanders also scratched defenceman Brian Strait (upper body) and forward Colin McDonald (hip). Robert Covington Jersey .I dont think it comes to mind in this business, in this game, the Philadelphia Flyers forward said. You dont try to lose games. Wilt Chamberlain Jersey . It was well worth the wait. Manning and the Denver Broncos waited eight long months, then another 33 minutes to get the season started because of a lightning storm. http://www.official76ersproshop.com/kids...rs-jersey/ . "I wasnt waving the pom-poms to be involved with it to start with," Carlyle said after a 5-2 win over Carolina on Sunday night. "Its been a trying time. "Specifically we havent played as well as wed like to hang our hat on.SAN FRANCISCO -- As awful as the San Francisco Giants have played for most of the last month, they are back in an enviable position: first place in the NL West. Beating their Bay Area rivals to get back there was a nice bonus, too. Hunter Pence homered and drove in two runs, Matt Cain tossed six strong innings and the Giants spoiled Jason Hammels debut for Oakland with a 5-2 victory over the Athletics on Wednesday night. San Francisco, which had lost 20 of 27, moved percentage points ahead of the Dodgers in the division. "If you look at how things have gone, you find that amazing," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "Its all from the good work that happened earlier. Weve got to get back on track." For one night, they did. Cain (2-7) allowed two runs and five hits for his first win since May 15 against Miami. He struck out four and walked two to help the Giants snap major league-leading Oaklands six-game winning streak. "Felt really good," Cain said. "Guys came up with some big, clutch hits when we needed them. Guys kept putting pressure on those guys, which is always nice." Santiago Casilla got three quick outs for his fourth save. Hammel, acquired by the As along with fellow right-hander Jeff Samardzija from the Chicago Cubs last week for three top prospects, had anything but a clean opener with Oakland. He pitched with runners on base for most of the night, and his left thumb on his glove hand cramped up and looked disjointed at one point. He left after giving up six hits and three runs -- two earned -- in five innings, striking out three and walking three. Hammel said his thumb was fine afterward and he was bothered more by his performance. "Tonight was a grind and they grinded me pretty good," he said. Stephen Vogt homered and Jed Lowrie had an RBI single for Oakland. The As shut down the Giants 5-0 and 6-1 in the first two games of the Bay Bridge Series in Oakland and looked every bit like a team with the best record in baseball while doing it. Back in the comforts of glitzy AT&T Park, though, the Giants offence finally showed signs of life. San Francisco finished with 10 hits and took addvantage of most of its scoring opportunities. Julius Erving Jersey. With one out in the second inning, Yoenis Cespedes bobbled Joe Paniks single in left field for an error. By the time the strong-armed Cespedes corralled the ball and threw home, Gregor Blanco had crossed the plate. Buster Poseys RBI single gave the Giants a 2-0 lead in the third. Vogt homered leading off the fourth, sending a slider from Cain over the stands in right and onto the walkway outside the ballpark for his third long ball this season. Pence came back with his own long ball in the fourth to put the Giants up 3-1. It was Pences 12th home run and first since June 21 at Arizona. "It was a pretty clean game," Posey said. While the Giants finally got the bats going, Cain kept finding ways to minimize the As rallies. The right-hander got Coco Crisp to ground out with two runners on in the fifth, which came after he misfired to second base on a potential double-play ball earlier in the inning. And after Lowries two-out single sliced San Franciscos lead to 3-2 in the sixth, Cain got Derek Norris to ground out, stranding two runners. Oakland got a brief scare in the fifth when Hammels left thumb somehow bent awkwardly in the middle of Blancos at-bat. An As trainer worked on the thumb for several minutes, then the pitcher got Blanco to ground out. Pence hit an RBI single in the sixth before lefty Eric OFlahertys wild pitch helped the Giants score another run to go ahead 5-2. Oaklands offence was kept quiet the rest of the way. Jeremy Affeldt, Sergio Romo and Casilla each pitched one perfect inning of relief. NOTES: The Giants optioned OF Juan Perez to Triple-A Fresno after the game. INF Ehire Adrianza will be activated from the disabled list Thursday. ... Giants 2B Marco Scutaro, who has been out all season with a strained lower back, is scheduled to play nine innings for Fresno on Thursday before rejoining San Francisco on Friday or Saturday. ... Vogt extended his hitting streak to a career-high nine games. ... Left-hander Scott Kazmir (10-3, 2.53 ERA) starts for the As against RHP Tim Hudson (7-5, 2.53 ERA) in Thursdays series finale.
